Kids these days…
Listening to adults, I figured out kids these days are different from when I was a teen. They are more patient. You see I was listening to NPR and they had one of these ‘kids these day’ experts. She was convinced kids are bombarded with brand names and image advertising. As a result our kids are shown more skin, wearing more slogans, and begin oppressed by big corporations, who are praying our their weaknesses for pop culture.
Let’s start with gen X. My generation. Girls in my high school were deck out in lace tops and mini skirts. The only difference between then and today is the difference in area of skin shown. I listened to Black Flag and Dead Kennedy’s, sorry Incubus, and Audioslave just do not offend me. Oh and but the way Ozzy and Michael Jackson were our fault.
I think that if kids have any respect for us ‘older’ people it only shows how resilient and good natured they really are. So stop complaining that they do not resemble the Norman Rockwell painting YOU remember. For me I remember being a teenager being hard, and yes it is a lot about image. They are trying to define who they are, be kind or go home.
