Shadow and mist ...
You have seen fairy tail stories of secret groups of people who move in shadow and control the world. These dark figures with mysterious purposes and their cunning ways few have ever seen. For what I about to tell you may sound like fantastical. I have met them… they call themselves Methodists and they belong to an organization called a Nominating Committee.
Two of their number had a conversation about me this week. It started this way…
Dark Figure J “ It seems Dan is back…” idly to dark figure T.
“ Yes … “ Said Dark Figure T, drumming his figures together. “ We need to find a way to for him to express his … ‘gifts’”
“ Hummm… yes let us see what we can find…” Finished Dark Figure J, raising his eyebrow.
Latter there would be more talking and then some food… because well we are Methodist.
You see I have been going back to my church. I have made about 6 weeks in a row. Some very dear friends of mine have started to help me volunteer for things. It started a couple of weekends ago when I was meet at the door of the church by the nice lady organizing the Christmas play. I am now both an announcer and a towns person.
I cannot enlighten you to their way or hope to escape because you see… I did it to them before.

Hey Dan - you need to fix the link to your wish list. How can people buy you stuff if they can't find out what you want? :)

Fixed... you can now send me stuff... or just see what kind of stuff I would buy.

Pax Vobiscum.
Dulce et Decorum est.
Non Nobis, Non Nobis Domini.
Amen.

For those of you that do not read latin...
Peace is the way
Sweet and graceful it is
Not to us, not to us, O Lord
Amen
... my translation may be off a bit.

I figured Latin was in keeping with the "Dark" and "Fantastical" tone of this entry.
My own take:
Peace be unto you
It is sweet and fitting
("Dulce et Decorum est Pro Patria Mori" was part of a World War I poem about soldeirs dying of gas in the trenches, which we were made to learn at Berkeley High in the tenth grade, and for years it was the only Latin phrase I knew, aside from scietific names, of course)
Not to Us oh Lord (But to you we give the glory) -
"Non Nobis is one of the very old Church Prayers.
I suppose this all condenses down to
"COOL!
Thank God!"
(And welcome back)

Umm thats Odd, when they have those same conversations in the Catholic church, they have already desided what your going to do before you deside to come back...

"Hmmmmm....", he says as he arches the other eyebrow.
Always remember, you think what we (Dark Figure T and I) want you to think when we want you to think it.
By the way, you got it all wrong... It is properly know as the "Opportunities Committee" not the "Nominating Committee".
We exist to serve. It is useless to resist us.
Regards,
Dark Figure J.
p.s. We know where you live.

I have just been informed that the people on "Seventh Heaven" are NOT Methodists. A keen-eared Professor of Theology at Truett Seminary says that only the Disciples of Christ have both Elders AND Deacons (As does the church on this show). Also, he spotted something typically Disciples of Christ on some liturgical item or other... Isn't it nice when authors of histories of theology have time to watch the Fox channel?

Another way you can tell that the show is in a Disciples of Christ church is the paramonts. They all have the red chalice with a St. Andrews Cross on it. Does anyone know what divinity School the young woman attends? (Her name escapes me, but she married the policeman this year.)
