Now listen to uncle Dan very closely. If the term someone uses for something is not offensive to that thing, leave it alone. The English language is not you own personal statement about the world. A language should not be political corrected. Anytime you make someone else stop using a term or type of language based on you views that is censorship. Now I am not talking about standing on a street corner and call people names. That is not about language or freedom of speech that is about manners and those people should be ok to smack. What I am talking about is being offended about the use of a word.

In this case the words are ‘master’ and ‘slave.’ Not used as an insult, but to describe the relation of two computer components. As in this is a master hard drive and this one is a slave. Does the hard drive feel bad that it is a slave, probably not. Now would I be hurt if you call me a ‘slave,’ not sure it depends on why you are calling me that. You see it is the intent of the use of the word that matters.

It is demeaning you say. I think it is demeaning that I am forced to have my world relabeled in someone else point of view. I endured the ‘politically correct’ movement in collage. When I had a paper marked a full grade down because I used the term waitress instead of the gender-neutral version server in reference to a female who brought a drink to a character in a short story. Now I refused to change the wording, because I feel it is demeaning to remove gender from the language. So I accept the consequences.

So am I sexist? Well yes and no. Gender is important, if you do not think so try describing your self, without using gender, race, or age. It is easy right? Now do you think someone could find you in an airport with this description? You see it is part of who we are, and the really great news is that none of that is bad. It is only how you treat others that matter. If you use these terms to hurt others then you should be smacked! If you try to ban these terms to oppress others… you should be smacked.
