Happy B-day Allen!

On this day 1793 Charlotte Corday assassinates Marat. Jean Paul Marat, one of the most outspoken leaders of the French Revolution, is stabbed to death in his bath by Charlotte Corday, a Royalist sympathizer.

Much latter in history my good friend Allen was born on the same day. hmmmm...

Here is to you Allen.

Of course, about thirty years ago, a musical (Full title something like "The Assasination of Jean Paul Marat as performed by the inmates of the St. something-or-other Assylum under the Direction of the Marquis de Sade" - more generally known as "Marat-Sade")was quite popular. (Berkeley High staged this in 1975...)

However, I still deeply admire Matt Groening and the crew of the Simpson's for transmographying the final line :"This Play is Over!" (to the accompanyment of guards truncheoning inmates) to Mr. Burns declaring "This Party is Over!" (to the accompanyment of Security trucheoning party guests) in the episode that begins with a sendup of Citizen Kane, and ends with a simaltaneous parody of Planet of the Apes and A Boy and his Dog. The fact that one in several thousand (if that many) viewers got the allusion is something I appreciate about the Simpsons

(Have you seen Cartoon Channel's Sealab 2021? I am reminded of the Fort Worth Zoo. The character "Sparks" reminds me of both you and myself...)
