Today
Today I am 36 years old. I have never been big on birthdays. I can count on one hand the number of times I remember doing something for my birthday.
Other this happened on this day. I started at the Fort Worth Zoo on this day thirteen years ago. That was the same day Jeffery Dahmer was caught. A year before that I went bowling with the person who would become my best friend. In 1934 outside Chicago's Biograph Theatre, notorious criminal John Dillinger--America's "Public Enemy No. 1"--is killed in a hail of bullets. 1376 - The legend of the Pied Piper of Hamelin leading rats out of town is said to have occurred on this date. Then last year Saddam Hussein's sons Odai and Qusai died after a gunfight with U.S. forces and a fire broke out near the top of the Eiffel Tower.
So all of that and I was born. So what has happened to you today?

So what do you do when you stand just a few short weeks away from half a lifetime? I spent half my life a world away from where I am now, and the other half growing up or growing away?
So what happened on my birthday? Besides me, I share the day with some good and some bad. Gene Roddenberry was born on the day, and Adolf became president, and Henry Ford drove the last Model T off the factory floor in Detroit.
What is best in life? To surround myself with friends and family and live. Besides, the wailing and lamementing of the women would get so tiring ....
