Spooky
We have all been dancing around the subject. You see it on the street, you watch it on TV, and it is talked about it quite conversations in dark corners. It is time someone came out and said it. We are having unnaturally nice weather. Really, I am talking 'does not get this nice' kind of weird weather. Today it is going to be in the 80’s. Something is wrong. I mean my AC broke down in my car this spring and I don’t even mind, right now. Last night on the news they were talking about people actually being bugged that we have had so much rain and so little heat. Do they remember 2000? July 2000 had a low temperature of 79 degrees and it was 100 days of 100+. This is spooky. Grass is still like green and stuff. I think Texas arranged to have Florida scarified to the weather gods. Don’t laugh, you know we do it.

Wow... long time no talk. It is good to hear from you again.
Note: Connie and I went to High School together. She lived on the oposite fork of Willis Creek from me. Yes we both lived on a creek.

I hypothesized the true reason for the excellent weather last month: http://www.alargehead.com/randomthoughts/past/index.php?i=002472.

Today New Orleans was declared to be in a state of emergency. The National Conference of the American Zoo and Aquarium Association was schduled there in several days. I havn't heard yet what the people from Waco who were going there have done yet. (Natalie and I went to the Regional in Santa Barbara this years so we could talk to John Cleese). On the other hand, the National Conference of the American Association of Zookeepers will be in Dallas in a couple of weeks (Natalie will be attending)... What does this say about the comparative Karma of management and rank and file? (I'm one to speak - I've never gone to an AZAK function, and have atended seven AZA regionals and twelve AZA regionals...)

...meant to say seven Nationals (including New Orleans in 1981) and twelve Regionals...
Natalie and I did not make the St. Louis National either. That one ended 11 September, 2001... Several zoos sent out rescue vehicles to retrieve their executive staffs, in some cases dropping off other zoo's Directors and Curators on the way home... Natalie and I were instead due to fly out of Oakland airport that morning. We ended up renting a car and driving over the Rockies (with my dad)...

Of course, New Orleans is still there, so the AZA Conference proceeds as scheduled...
