Honeymoon

We have decided where we are going on our honeymoon. It is very funny when I think about it. This was the first question k had after I asked her to marry me. Here we are almost a year latter and I now have an answer. The answer is St Croix Island. It should be fun.

The Lost Princess

We went to the opening of “The Lost Princess” last night. By the way, congratulations to everyone who worked on the movie, nice job. It was very well attended and a very funny movie. While talking to Doug and some of the others involved in making the movie, they all said the same thing. They said it was much harder then the thought it would be. I am glade I am starting small.

Talk about birth of a Nation!

Earlier this month I was in DC listening to CSPAN radio. While driving to the airport they were covering the “Confronting the Judicial War on Faith” conference. This was a gathering republican law-makers that felt that judges should be impeached for make unpopular (to them) rulings.

Lawyer-author Edwin Vieira said Justice Kennedy’s philosophy “upholds Marxist, Leninist, satanic principles drawn from foreign law.” Washington Post, April 9, 2005

Vieira continued by saying his “bottom line” for dealing with the Supreme Court comes from Joseph Stalin. “He had a slogan, and it worked very well for him, whenever he ran into difficulty: ‘no man, no problem,’” Vieira said. Washington Post, April 9, 2005

The full Stalin quote, for those who don't recognize it, is “Death solves all problems: no man, no problem.”

What kind of Culture of Life is it to quote the biggest mass murderer of the 20th century as justification for getting rid of a Supreme Court judge?

What did Supreme Court Justice Kennedy do? He ruled that executing minors was unconstitutional. One of the sources he sited was the International Bill of Human Rights. The nerve thinking that we the good old USA should actually protect human rights at home instead of just in Iraq.

However, this is not what amazed me. What amazed me was the conversion on the Ten Commandments. A Jewish political leader stood up and stated his support for making it mandatory to have the Ten Commandments in every court house. This was one of the main topics of the conference. What amazed me was that he did not realize when they talk about the first Commandment*, the god the right-wing is talking about is not his god!

* "I am The Lord your God, Who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. You shall have no other gods before Me."

Other things that were discussed included a movement to end contested divorces. Yes, this means if you husband beats you and wants to keep beating you, unless he sleeps with another woman, you have to stay.

Wow… this is why horror movies do not scare me anymore.

We have a cast!

Alright, we have the short cast! We had some amazingly talented people read. As a couple of them proved (shutter), any combination of them could do this short. In the end it came down to who had looked best under the lighting conditions we were going to shoot. It was the people with broken noise. Note to self broken noises light better... get in more bar fights.

It still scares me to hear other people say these words. It is like two people standing around being saying what the voices in your head say. It is a very emotional experience.

On another note, Sorry for the lack of Heydan posts. I have been very busy with work, faire and movie project. I have also been playing a good deal of WoW. The problem with blogging is that when you have the most to post about, you have the least amount of time to post it.

The dangers of being anonymous

Today I accidentally deleted a comment from one of my post. It seems there have been a number of friends who have shifted to new anonymous blogs formats. One of these is annoying factoid. Therefore, I am sorry knowitall. I swear this looked like comment spam!

Surround yourself with good people with good ideas and good equipment, let the rest take care of itself. When you come back to town, come play poker with us.

… BTW I am all about playing poker.

This does point to a new trend. A large number of my personal daily reads are turning to anonymous formats. The reasons are simple. This is where I post my personal thoughts and ideas. Yes, I am sharing them with anyone who would like to read them. The people reading them should be aware that this is my journal, not my diary nor is it my personnel file. Meaning, I write things he for people to read and enjoy. Imagine if you and I went out and had a beer, this is the kind of things I would say while I was there. This is not the things I would say at work or even at home. This is a both public and personal form of communication.

Recently I have seen people use web log entries to make judgments about peoples action in a professional environment. This crosses the line. If you work with me and we ran into each other at a bar. Would you expect me to share our conversation with the HR department?

The Web and Blogging are changing many things in our world. Think of it as getting to talk to person in every kind of bar.

reviewing the script

I am in DC again. For most of the flight, I was looking at the scriptlet I want to shoot. I cleaned up some of the language and added more set direction. Then I wrote a list of the things I would need to start this project. They included:

Actors: Two of them a twenty something guy and a punky looking girl. I have a couple of people in mind as possibilities. I want to have a number of people read. The chemistry of the actors will be important.

Director: Because I want to be behind the camera, I need a director. This means I will have to let go at some point. I am trying to get use to that idea.

Sound: for the shoot I will need a boom mic and a soundman. I know this is an important element. In the past I have not paid as much attention to this as I should.

Storyboards: Once the script is reviewed, the next step is to draw out storyboards for the shoot. This will determine how many shots we need and what camera movement we can put in. It will also be another review for the script.

Post Production: I need to think out the elements that we will need. These things include music, authoring format and art.

It sounds like a great deal of stuff. In truth it is. The good news is that I have a script that is in good shape, a crew ready to film, camera that can handle the job, location with power and support, editing equipment with a kick-butt editor and one guy that wants to tell a story.
