"so you have a birthday coming up..."

Last night my brother reminded me that I am turning 39 this month. Not that this was a big surprise, I have known how to count to 40 since first grade. I have known what age was coming up since about age 6. Yes, I will be 39 this month. This seemed to amaze my brother who passed 40 a couple of years ago. His little brother will be the big 3… 9. Me, I am not impressed. Yes, I look at sports car a little differently then I once did. However, my goals and passions are much the same as they were ten years ago. The only difference being that I have resources that I didn’t then and I look at time a little different. Time is now another resource that I have to manage.

"Dan, I need your help with this, your tactful, I am not." ~ one of the guys I work for.

See, someone thinks I have tact! (Oh this is bad)

I love the rain!

I love irony. Yes, I send it little notes on St. Valentine’s Day and make sure I call it on its birthday. Currently I adore the things irony with weather. For those of you not in Texas, it is raining. Today we may get as much as three inches on top of a record for June. It has rained everyday I can remember this summer. What is ironic about this is that I am from Oregon where it rains like this for eight months a year. Everyone always asks ‘don’t you miss the rain?’ No, I don’t miss the rain any more then you miss 95 degree weather, right now. I like the rain, I like it when it is 95 degrees, I like thunderstorms and I like earthquakes (small one that don’t kill anyone). In a strange way they give the places I have lived character.

For all those people complaining about the rain, stop. Enjoy the change. Yes we had a lot of rain this year. However, stop and notice that is a beautiful 80 degrees and the grass is green. Think of it as getting to enjoy Oregon weather for a little while. Oregon right now is having Texas type weather and they are not enjoying the switch. Myself, I am, if nothing else, enjoying the irony.

Paris Hilton Great American

In "United States vs. Holland" the Supreme Court stated that "Perjury, regardless of the setting, is a serious offense that results in incalculable harm to the function of the legal system, as well to private individuals." This quote didn’t just jump to the top of my mind. This is how the House Republicans opened impeachment hearings of Clinton on December 10, 1998. This was the same month a Saudi militant named Osama Bin Laden renewed his call for attacks on the United States and Israel declaring he was ‘at war’ with the US. Republicans said Clinton was trying to use that to distract from the 'real issue.' This is just four months after the over 200 US citizens died in attacks on US embassies in Africa.

Last week these same people where up in arm about Paris Hilton skating out a couple of days early for good behavior. Today we learn that Scooter Libby’s sentence was too harsh and has been commutated by President Bush. Apparently he still has to pay a fine, some probation and his reputation is damaged and that was harsh enough for lying in a case that hurt national security.

It is not that I am really that mad about Libby getting off. It is just that I feel bad for Paris. After all, she did her time.

...then is a tow truck like an axe murder?

Auto body repair shops are like haunted houses for cars… that was my thought today pulling out of the car rental place next to one. Today has been the day of broken tools. My car has needed to go into the shop for a couple of months. It has a temperature gauge that is acting up. This weekend it decided to escalate the issue by trying to avoid starting. It didn’t leave me stranded, but it made me worry. Therefore I got up this morning to take it in. When I went down to check email and tell my boss that I would be a couple minutes late, I found my laptop would not power on. It had decided to join the car in its thermal drama by getting a fan error and shutting down. That took a couple of hours on the phone with tech support. Now, I am running really late and have to get my back up laptop running. So going from car repair, to rental car place, back to repair place to get my tolltag and school books (I am a moron) and then into work to be unproductive due to spending most of my time reinstalling tools and searching for backups of files. Sigh…
